Emily Hobbs' two works depict photographic images of grass with superimposed gesturally painted marks of what appear to be natural forms. I was drawn to Hobb’s work because of her graphical yet gestural use of mixed media. The painted marks act as a personal, sensory experience of nature, while the photographs of the grass act as the literal, ‘realistic’, general experience of nature. By mixing the two, the personal and the general experiences, Hobbs' create exciting and inviting works that allow the audience a daydream like a depiction of nature.
