Untitled #1
Virtual renderings of the human form are notorious for their uncanny qualities. My own interest in the grey area between humanity and inhumanity (aka the 'uncanny valley') is what drew me to these pieces.
Martin's corpse-like forms inhabit expansive, seemingly endless spaces; suspended, the nude figures elude a sense of familiarity. The awkwardly crouching body in Untitled #2 exists within a void; with only a singular light source to pronounce its glossy, porcelain skin. I am reminded of an existence within limbo, a sense of unease emanating from the abyss.
