Initially I questioned what I was seeing and hearing, despite the explicit combination of natural and artificial in Ford’s work. After reading the description, I felt a sense of attachment to this immersive piece. I felt similarly when returning home to Newcastle during lockdown. Interacting with the nature of home, away from the impersonal experience of London, was grounding. 39nm holds a longing for this interaction, and caution surrounding the secular issues of the climate crisis and destruction of green belt areas. It reminisces the pause of lockdown, combined with fear of the unknown and uncertainty for the future.
